Transition
Transition into Foundation
Our transition from kinder into primary school begins in term two with visits to the local Kindergartens by our Grade 5 students and teachers. The kinder children are also invited along to the school for an activities session with their kinder groups. Parents are welcome to visit the school anytime, and we have an Information Night in June and an Open Day in May each year with school tours led by our student leaders. Once enrolled, the future Foundation students are matched to a Grade 5 buddy. They participate in three afternoon sessions at school, becoming familiar with their new friends, teachers, playground and buddy. As part of our buddy program, each Kindergarten student receives a hand-made “Buddy Bear” and card from their Grade 5 buddy. In December, parents come along to an Information Night about Orientation Day and the new school year. Transition within the school At the end of each school year, students participate in transition sessions. They experience parts of life in the year level into which they are transitioning. Transition from Primary to Secondary Throughout the Grade 6 year, students are given information about the secondary schools in the local area, including Open Days and Information Nights. Tatura Primary School assessment data is sent to each student’s secondary school and the Grade 6 teachers meet with secondary school co-coordinators to discuss the individual needs of each student. In Term 4, Grade 6 students participate in Transition Day and spend the day at their chosen secondary school. |
